What is a Denture Reline?

As your mouth changes due to natural aging, weight fluctuations, or dental health issues, your full or partial dentures may become loose or uncomfortable. A reline involves adding a new layer of material to the fitting surface of your denture, restoring proper fit and function without the need for an entirely new one.

Instead of replacing your entire denture, a reline can restore fit, comfort, and stability in a cost-effective way

Why is a denture reline necessary?

Once teeth are lost or extracted, the soft tissue and the bone that once surrounded your teeth start to resorb (shrink) and change their shape. In the event of extractions, this process starts immediately and is quite significant during the first three months. Over time, resorption will be ongoing, however some people experience it more than others.

These changes lead to the denture not fitting snuggly and becoming loose and uncomfortable. Patients often find that it is difficult to speak or eat due to the denture becoming unstable.

Signs your dentures may need a reline:

  • Loose dentures that rock or shift

  • Sore gums or pressure points

  • Difficulty eating or speaking

  • Food trapping under the denture

  • Increased need for denture glue

If you're experiencing discomfort with your current dentures, don't hesitate to reach out to us. Your comfort and satisfaction are our priorities.
